Financing days and Culture in La Laguna (Tenerife)

On Thursday 21 start at La Laguna (Tenerife) the events entitled entitled "New Challenges for Financing CultureModels and techniques of fundraising in the current economic context"And that will take place over 3 days.

These days seem to me particularly important in the current context, in which scarce resources and successive budget cuts affect cultural enterprises dramatic way.

The funding model of culture that we kept so far (the French model) based on public financing of activities of general interest of the population, is being replaced by the Anglo-Saxon model based on a mixed de financiación pública y privada (… con la parte pública más bien escaseando).

Law of Citizen Participation and Patronage should try to act in a plane triple (legal, economic and institutional) to regulate the current situation and help companies in this new environment ... but still not clear how it will do so.

It is in this context that the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna organized this conference on Financing for Culture, adapted to the new economic framework and with the idea of helping the Canary cultural industries.

My participation in them will be on Saturday morning, with a presentation on how to make the most of our funds in cultural promotion on the Internet, as well as the tools we have to give more visibility to our sponsors to thereby put them in value and possibly get. I will also talk a moment about platforms crowdfundingAlthough I will not dwell on it because one of the presentations at the conference will be devoted precisely how to get funding through such portals.

You can see the entire program in this PDF: Conferences on Financing and Culture

The sessions are free, but seating is limited to 140 seats, so if you want to attend, please contact the organizers www.aytolalaguna.es (Days financing culture). Phone 922 60 11. 50 - 19 (Department of Culture Pza Santo Domingo, s / n 38201. La Laguna....).

The Death of Juliet Agustin, director of the Puppet Center in Lleida

Juliet died last Friday. A car accident in Llardecans (Segrià, Lleida). 59 years.

His death leaves a great void in the cultural world, and in my heart.

I met Juliet when two years ago I was invited to give a lecture as part of the Fira de Teatre de Titelles of Lleida (of which she was the director). At that point, I was struck by its vitality and way of working, enthusiastic and completely turned over to others. An extraordinary woman, unusual. With a personality and a way of being, that leaves a mark in the heart of anyone who crosses her. I was no exception. We continued to see the months following our meeting, and whenever I've been through Lleida I dropped by the Puppet Center to say hello.

She, her husband and his team at the Center have been doing a lot of work towards the dissemination of this art and its professionalization. Every corner of the former Convent of Santa Teresa (present site of the Puppet Center) bears his imprint. Each small project of many that are made there is a part of it. Continue your legacy will be tough.

My deepest condolences to her husband and family.

A big hug.

Review of "CULTURAL TOURISM" José Antonio Donaire - Vitel • the Editions

Cultural tourism, between experience and ritual"It is a book worth reading by little you feel a certain interest in tourism.

The author knows what he's talking and knows the subject, not in vain is a specialist in tourism management in historic cities (among others related to geography and tourism topics).Turisme Cultural - José Antonio Donaire

Although in principle the book is aimed at an academic audience, the content is treated in a pleasant and at the same time is an amazing scholarship. It is recommended for all audiences.

The book is really dense in content, so it's not a book to read at a stretch. It is rather a bedside book. Something to read for a while and then stop to reflect on reading.

Some of the topics covered in the book are:

  • Culture (in capital letters) vs culture (lowercase)
  • The image of a destination vs. the real identity of its inhabitants
  • How is a cultural tourist
  • Cultural tourism is an experience or ritual

With deft skill, the author will introduce topics that seem simple and goes by going to dilemmas that require reflection, and eventually force you to leave the book aside, like it or not, and force you to think about what he said to you a opinion and position yourself to one side or another.

It also includes some interesting thoughts on web 2.0 and its applications in tourism issues.

Anyway ... A real pleasure to read.
