What is Google Scholar? and What is?

Google Scholar O Google Scholar (In Castilian) is the Google search engine specialized in academic papers. It was established in 2004 and is the you should use if you are college or are working on academic content. This search engine appear only articles published in refereed journals, theses, books, patents and documents relating to meetings with scientific and academic validity. It is therefore most suitable source of information to be included as references in any document whose sources should be academically valid.

What is Google Scholar?

If you're in college and you must submit papers, theses, articles or works EOG / Master, it is necessary that all statements that do have a sound scientific basis and of course, you must cite the source in which you have based for reaching these conclusions. You find this source Google ScholarNot at Google.

The results appear in the pages of Google Scholar They are already designed so you can capture with reference manager you are using (the most popular are Zotero, RefWorks or Mendeley) so that citations will be created automatically and the literature you will also be created automatically with all references you used in your work.

To do this you must create an author profile and register your items from the ad itself. If the articles are published in journals indexed, Google will find them and you must assign them to your tab. From the tab you can track appointments that you receive and have an inventory of all your published works, generating statistics and graphs.

The algorithm that sorts the results of Google Scholar is very similar to that of Google, but also includes the relevance of the document, ie, the times I have cited.

Curiously, Google Scholar's slogan is "standing on the shoulder of giants”… “shoulders of giants"A quote from Issac Newtown"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. "Reminding us of the importance of research and teamwork.

I hope this article will be useful.

Google begins to give priority to businesses that use Google+

Today I saw for the first time tab Google+ prominent above the other results in a search performed on Google.

This case was searching the portal "getaway vacation" and to show the results, I appeared last post getaway vacation performed on your Google+ page at the top of the right column of the page (see image) just above the Adwords and framed by a square of 1 pixel.

[style_image width=”400″ height=”330″ image=”https://www.montsepenarroya.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/google+.jpg” align=”alignright” alt=”Google Plus” url=”https://www.montsepenarroya.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/google+.jpg” border=”yes” lightbox=”yes” fade=”yes”]

Lack little so that it meets the first year of Google+And just when we thought that this network was entering a state of catatonia, Google goes and gives a push to see if this takes off once.

The social network Google+ It was created in June 2011 but it was not until September 2011 that Google allowed the registration to everyone (except companies, who had to wait until November 2011, and except under 18 who had to wait to December 2011). Since then, there have been major changes and gradually (or at least this is my feeling) people have been forgetting this network and has remained focused on Facebook.

But it was clear that since Google's revenue comes from advertising, and Adwords now do not allow the same segmentation that Facebook, apart from the fact that the under 30 almost not they clickedSo this type of income they must have been falling day after day.

For my part, I was sure that at one time or another, Google would react and encourage the use of Google+ for companies, but I would not know how or when. Today I had the first proof that it is already doing ... and how has also been resolved.

So if from now on, the post published on pages Google+ Highlights will appear in Google searches to find the name of a company, it is clear that at company level should we use this type of promotion.

To see if this weekend I have a moment to create my business page.

We talk to each other.

See how it works Google Scholar, Google's new search

At the end of last week Google put online the beta version Google Scholar, Its new search engine to locate technical information among all articles, studies, theses, white papers, case studies, Technical reports, research, documentation research centers and universities, books, etc ... published.

It has not even been a month since Google launched its Google Desktop Search tool that has pleasantly surprised us again throwing Google Scholar.

The initial image is very similar to Web search engine Google, however, we have introduced a search topic and give the button "search"We ordered a results window with no commercial information without ads appear. Sorting criteria take into account the content of the documents, the author, the publication in which the document appears, in a similar way as it does for the Web version with links-inThe number of citations to that article in other documents. Finally, it draws attention to the links shown are not unique, as the same article may be published in different media. Even it has links to documents referenced by studies (even they can not exist on the Web), similar to the concept links-out Web version.

To limit searches by author, allows us to include in the filter box seeker "author:" we can write alone or with the theme or concept we are looking to limit the number of results to be obtained.

Turning to practice, I have dedicated myself to making a few searches in the two versions of Google to see the real differences. The first search I've done is "eye tracking technology". The Web version has given me references and four ads 1,040,000. The first 10 results, 4 are companies that sell such technology-related solutions. The remaining 6 are studies or related technical information. In contrast, the results shown by 13,600 Google Scholar 100% are technical, not commercial references or advertisements appearing ... so perfect!

I have taken a second example, "web metrics". The results have been curiously very similar. Of seven advertisements and 2,050,000 results for the Web version, 40% were technical results and 60% commercial results. For version Google ScholarThey have been 28,000 the results, all technical again.

Finally, mention the authors whose technical documents have not yet been indexed they should ask their school, college or publisher to contact Google Scholar to include such content. Google Scholar moment does not allow direct publication by the author of reports and documents. More information is available in the FAQ.

Definitely a tool that will be talking in the research community from now.
