As it has been doing every April for the last few years, Google has updated the PageRank displayed in its barAlthough it has been faithful to its appointment, it has been a few days earlier than last year, when it updated the Page Rank towards the end of April.
What is PageRank and how important is it in the search engine ranking algorithm?
PageRank is the algorithm Google uses to assign a numerical value to the importance of a web page. This value is part of the algorithm that determines the order in which search results are displayed on Google.
The purpose of PageRank It assigns a numerical value to web pages based on the number of times other pages recommend them and the PageRank they have. In other words, it establishes the importance of that web page.
But this algorithm takes into account many more factors than simply counting links or assigning a value based on the PageRank of the page sending the link. For example, if a link comes from the same IP as the web page it links to, it's worth much less than one from a completely different IP.
How do PageRank updates work?
There is a difference between the actual PageRank and the PageRank displayed by the Google Toolbar.
The PageRank displayed in the Google toolbar is only updated approximately once every four months: in January, April, and September.
The bar shows us a PageRank based on 10 on a logarithmic scale. That is, it's easy to go from 0 to 1 or 2 to 3, but it's very difficult to go from 5 to 6, and even harder to go from 6 to 7. However, this isn't our page's actual PageRank, but rather the value Google assigned to it the last time it updated the bar's PageRank.
The PageRank that Google uses for its calculations is much more precise and uses a much larger scale, although we do not know by how much, and Google is completely secretive about this, although it seems to be based on 100. Its internal servers update it daily.
When will the next update be?
If everything goes according to plan, we should expect it to happen sometime in September. So, any PageRank-boosting actions we take from now on won't be reflected in the Google toolbar until that month.
I don't see PageRank in my Google toolbar, what should I do?
By default, the Google toolbar does not include this information, but you can include PageRank from the toolbar options, and in this way, while you browse the web, you will be able to know the PageRank of the pages you visit. This will help you know which web pages you should try to include your links on to increase your PageRank.
Tips to improve your website's PageRank:
- You need to increase the number of links on third-party websites that recommend your website. To do this, you can post articles on forums, websites, or news journals, and include links to your pages in your articles. You can also request link exchanges with other websites.
- You need to get links from websites that have high PageRankIdeally, a link on CNN's website or a really important website. This is difficult to achieve. But websites that allow you to publish articles on current affairs and include links in them. You can also get online newspapers to publish your press releases (don't forget to include links to your website in all the press releases you publish).
- You need to get links on web pages where there aren't many other links.Remember that your value is divided by the total number of links that originate from that web page.
Obviously, all of this is achieved automatically if you have excellent content on your website. Third parties will spontaneously link to your website, recommend your site, and if you manage to create something unique, the press will talk about you.
This is the best advice we can give you: work on the content of your website to make it excellent. Include reports, best practices, and studies, and make them available to third parties.
