Report on the evolution of social media users in Spain

Contents of this article

I was preparing a new syllabus on Social Media for a UOC master's degree when I came across a report published by the Social Media Observatory, in its fourth wave, which has been very useful to me.

This report describes the evolution of the most used social networks in Spain over the last 4 years. We can see how Tuenti stagnates, how networks like MySpace or Xing die, how Facebook continues to grow...

It also analyses the use that brands make of social media and how users search for information before deciding to buy (this type of phenomenon has not been analysed in other studies, so this report is especially interesting when it touches on this point in particular).

As with most reports that require a large amount of data, 2012 is based on data collected in 2011… and unfortunately, in terms of social media, this is too long a time frame to capture new trends, so this report does not cover the rise of Pinterest (February 2012 approx.) but it does cover that of Instagram and Google+.

Still, it's very interesting and you learn a lot from reading it, so it's embedded here:

I hope you find it useful.
