Basic and advanced WordPress course, in Olot this May

Contents of this article

The next ones May 11th and 31st I have the pleasure of teaching two WordPress classes in Olot: a first session on basic WordPress and a second, on Advanced WordPress. Organized by the Fundació d'Estudis Superiors d'Olot.

In the class of WordPress Basics we will see:

  • How a hosting service works.
  • How to create a database.
  • How an FTP program works and how we can use it to upload files to our hosting.
  • How to install WordPress.
  • How it works at a basic level (publishing pages and posts).
  • How can I change the language?
  • How you can customize your website's appearance to make it look more like a corporate website than just a blog.

No technical knowledge is required to install WordPress, the little you need to know is what I will explain in class.

In the class of Advanced WordPress we will see:

  • How to improve WordPress SEO to rank high in search engines.
  • How to install Google Analytics codes in our WordPress and how to define the objectives and conversion funnel of the page, in Google Analytics (it is recommended that students come to the training with the access data to their Google Analytics account. If they do not have it, they can register at www.google.com/analytics)
  • How to embed videos and other content in WordPress.
  • What are the best plugins to improve your WordPress? With these plugins we can: create a good contact form, get a multilingual site, include the Facebook “like” and Twitter “Tweet this”, connect our WordPress with Twitter, etc.
  • How paid templates work and how we can change their design.
  • How the WordPress eCommerce plugin works so we can sell books, tickets, etc.
  • How to start getting subscribers (via email, via newsletter and via Feedburner)

In the second half of the class we will deal specifically with what a company or institution's website should look like. We will see

  • How to create a good who we are.
  • How to create a good where we are.
  • How to create product sheets.
  • How to orient the website towards the client and not the product.
  • How to create landing pages for our SEM campaigns (we will see how to create pages and make sure they do not appear in the menu, and we will see how to include contact forms on a specific page)
  • How to create a nice favicon (if you don't know what a favicon is click here: what is a favicon)

If you wish to attend the course (one day or two days), please contact Marta Figueras from the Fundació d'Estudis Superiors d'Olot (972262128) http://fes.olot.cat.

See you there.

May everything go well.

  3. Hello Montse,
is enrolled in the wordpress d'Olot course. I have already installed WordPress and I would like to ask you a question. Is there any plugin, theme or the one that follows to include an addition to the website for your partners and what are these for accessing? Do you need to register? This space would serve for the internal communication of the entity and also for recording documents of meeting minutes, etc.
    Thank you very much,

    1. Edurne, yes there is a way to ensure that a part of the website remains private and only enters through a login and password. Ara didn't remember the plugin... I look at the one I saw for a moment in December.
      A hug.

  4. The course on the 31st was very interesting for those of us who are just starting out in mastering WordPress.

I'll see if I can attend, because I'm interested in almost everything you explain in the blog.

    all the best.
