Improve SEO results by improving Google's ranked results section

Contents of this article

Today we are going to dedicate this article to how to improve the results of our SEO strategy to get more visits to our website, without even touching the site.

One of the actions we can take is to improve the persuasiveness of our results when we already appear in first position. To do this, the first thing we should do is improve the texts of the ranked results (or the “site links” as Google calls them).

What are ranked results or sitelinks?

When Google finds more than one result on the same website, it displays the most relevant one first and the other relevant pages on the same website are listed below it in a two-column format. These links are generated automatically.

How can I manage what appears in the columns?

Modifying what appears in the two columns can be done from Google Webmasters. To do this, you need to register as the website's webmaster at www.google.com/webmasters and once in the control panel of this tool, we will find the management menu in the “Site Links” section.

From here we can tell Google what we do not want to appear using the “demote a URL” option. That is, if we see that among the links on the site there is a URL that we do not want to appear, we can tell Google Webmasters to lower the position of that URL and make it disappear from the list of hierarchical results.

It would be much easier if Google would let us specify what we want to appear in this area… but that can't be done. To get the pages we want to appear, we have to demote the ones Google selects on its own.

What are the advantages of having good hierarchical results?

Above all, we can show the most relevant information about our website in the first position of Google results. We will find a correlation between the pages that appear in this area and the most visited ones on our website (we will see this by looking at Google Analytics).

It is also a great way to make a good first impression on our users.

Of course, if we have good statistics in Google Analytics (with well-configured objectives), it is clear that a good strategy would be to select for this area the pages that bring us the most conversions on the website.

I hope this information is useful to you.
