Advanced WordPress Course which will be held in Olot next June 13th and 14th.
The course is 12 hours long (i.e. morning and afternoon of June 13 and 14, with breaks in between). The objective is for the student to leave class with a finished and functional 100% corporate website, including the content created.
For this reason, this course is only open to students who attend class with WordPress installed on their domain and know how it works at a basic level.
There will be no topics related to software installation. We will only cover what plugins we need to turn a basic installation into a corporate website, what a “who we are” section should look like, a “what we do” section, a product catalogue, an image gallery, a “where we are” section, how to include other content on the website, how to install professional templates (students can bring their own templates or buy them online while attending class). We will also see how to create a multilingual site, how to install Google Analytics codes, how to register it with Google Webmasters, what metrics we should track, etc.
During the class, each student will receive personal advice on the specifics of each website and will work both individually and in groups. I will assist everyone and together we will move forward in the creation of each one's website.
As I mentioned, the goal is to leave there with the website done, so it's about investing these 2 days in getting out of the office and the day-to-day, to concentrate on the website.
If you would like to attend but don't know how to get started with WordPress, you still have time. I recommend the following:
1) Buy a domain name at www.cdmon.com (if you already have it, you can skip this step).
2) Hire a hosting that already has WordPress installed. You can do this at www.cdmon.com, hiring Junior hosting https://www.cdmon.com/cas/hosting/alojamiento-web/ (5 euros per month). If you just want to try it out, you can sign up for a monthly subscription. In the hosting control panel you will see that you have WordPress pre-installed, activate it and that's it (there is no additional cost).
3) Practice using WordPress at home, create a listing, create a page, and generally play around a bit so that when the advanced class starts, you know how the basics work and can focus on turning the stock installation into a good website.
4) If you want to go a little further, look at the free templates that you will find on WordPress.org and also the paid ones that you will find on www.themeforest.netIf you find a template you like, download it to your computer and upload it to your WordPress.
Note about CDMon: I recommend this company because they are very friendly on the phone and their hosting has WordPress pre-installed. I have no affiliation with them.
The course is organized by FES – Olot and is taught at its facilities.
If you want more information about this or want to register for the conference, you will find more information here:

Hello Montserrat, I have attended several of your talks, on behalf of acc10 and now I am very interested in taking this intensive course on WordPress. I have created several pages with WordPress but now I am going to set up a page for a flower shop with an online store and that is why I would like to take advantage of this intensive course to give my project a boost! Best regards.
I will attend the course and the information has been very useful to me, thank you.
But I have a question, do we really need to have a domain, or can we work with WordPress installed on a local server with programs like Mamp?
Greetings.
Juan, I'm not sure that everything will work on a local server... you should have the same configuration as a hosting and in terms of knowledge, this is not within everyone's reach... I don't know if this is your case.
I recommend you http://www.cdmon.com, the hosting costs 5 euros per month, you sign up for it for three months or so and that's it, you do the tests there. This hosting has WordPress pre-installed, so you just have to activate it and it's up and running.
But as I said... maybe you are a source code expert and emulating a server is a no-brainer for you.
You'll tell me.
A big hug.
Hello
I'm Sergio from Barcelona. I heard about your course from another classmate and we wanted to know if you still have a place. We were looking for something like what you offer and we find it very interesting.
all the best
Sergio, contact the organizers http://fes.olot.cat/inici?task=view_detail&agid=364&year=2012&month=06&day=13 They will be able to tell you if there are still places available (I hope so and that we can meet up, I like your website!! It's a WordPress with the e-commerce plugin!! Great idea).
You'll tell me.
A big hug.
I really appreciate your effort, girl. I'm still lacking in marketing and Google analytics and that alone will make it worth attending, so I hope to secure my place this week.
Greetings
Carina
Hello Montse
Do you think you could also talk about WordPress security and protection to avoid cyber attacks? I got into the WordPress world after meeting you 3 years ago and it is really impressive what the platform allows, the sites are really cool, sophisticated and very impressive but I have been the victim of a phishing attack that came through holes in the manager. Could you include this topic in the course? It would be an extra motivation for me to attend and be able to attend one of your talks again.
Thank you.
Carina, thank you for your suggestion. I can't promise that I will include it in the agenda, but I can promise that I will try, but I need to do more research on the subject and I'm very short on time. I'll be able to confirm this when we get closer to the dates.
I really appreciate that you mentioned the phishing attack. It has never happened to me before, but it is true that standard content managers are easier to damage than hand-made ones, so it is necessary to keep the versions updated and be aware of possible vulnerabilities.
… well… I mean… give me a few days to see if I can find information about it and perform the corresponding tests (I have usually tested everything I explain myself).
Thank you so much.
A big hug.
Montse.
