Late Summer It is a book that can be read in one sitting and in less than 3 hours. It is well narrated and the characters have depth. When you finish reading it, you can't help but wonder what will become of their lives, how they will fare outside the book. This is not easy in a short novel.
This is the first short novel written by Monica Esbert, although I know that he has written others. He has also written plays and short stories.
The author tells us the story of a young woman who feels that she is being followed in the street and who at a certain moment tries to establish contact with her pursuer and understand who he is and what motivates him to follow her. The work is narrated in the first person and tells us about love, hate, death and a whole host of other aspects of life that pass through the protagonist's head while she talks to her enigmatic follower and tries to find out more about him.
It is a work of fiction that is credible and that manages to recreate scenes from life with which we are able to identify, and it is precisely this verisimilitude that turns the story into a thought-provoking drama that makes us wonder what we would do if we were the protagonist of this story.
The novel earned Monica Esbert the Valldaura Short Novel Award in the year 2001.
The story is original and the ending is unexpected. 100% recommended.
