When I am teaching classes International Digital Marketing There are two questions that my students undoubtedly ask themselves:

  1. Which search engines should I rank on to reach customers in a particular country?
  2. Which social networks should I appear on to reach customers in a particular country?

The answer to the first question I already explained in the post titled:  How to know which search engine is the most popular in a country?

In today's post, we are going to address the second question: Social Networks in International Digital Marketing.

Unfortunately, to find out which social network is most popular in a particular country, we do not have a tool that makes our job easier and tells us, with just the push of a button (as was the case with search engines with http://gs.statcounter.com ), which social network interests us.

To find out which social networks are the most popular in each country, we must use deductive tools. Let's look at the two options:

Tools to find out which social network dominates in a country

For me, the best tool to know which websites dominate the Internet in a particular country is Alexa.com (www.alexa.com), with all its limitations and all its detractors. There are few tools that show us information as useful as this one. By the way, Alexa will stop working on December 31, 2021. Amazon is closing this service.

Compete.com would be another of these tools, but it only uses data from US users so its results are very biased and not very useful when it comes to International Digital Marketing outside of the US.

International social networksGlobal Stats also gives this information and it is much more reliable. Edit the graph that it shows by default, click on social networks, indicate the country you want to analyze and it will tell you which network is the most used and what position the rest are in. It is a really useful tool for international digital marketing. Both to know which search engine they use and to know which social network you are interested in if you want to enter that market.

When carrying out International Digital Marketing tasks and planning actions on social networks, it is ideal to take into account both sources. And based on this information, we decide what actions we are going to carry out and where we will do it.

Information from our Google Analytics

As with any Digital Marketing action, we will need to monitor the results of the action. To do this, we can count on the invaluable help of our web analytics program, which, whether it is Google Analytics or another of the advanced programs, should indicate the access data to our website according to its source page (referrer) and depending on the language settings of your browser. With these two pieces of data, we can perform analyses on which social networks at an international level have worked best for us to attack a specific country, and we can focus our efforts and our budget on the one that works best.
