Review of “THE NEXT 30 YEARS” by Alvaro González-Alorda – Alienta Ed.

This is not a science fiction book that I review from time to time. This is a must-read, thought-provoking book.

Like some of the other essential non-fiction books I have read lately, “The Next 30 Years” was recommended to me by my former boss Antonio González Barros. The short review that Antonio wrote when recommending it is priceless:

« (…) an excellent and highly recommended book by a good friend, Alvaro Gonzalez-Alorda. I consider it one of the 10 books that have given me the most. I plan to spend time reflecting on several of its brief chapters. It is a concrete, clear, practical and extremely enjoyable manual on how to approach our professional career. And it is a book that has its own well-cared for and useful website: www.losproximos30.com with very well-chosen links and soundtrack. I am attaching a literal fragment of the first chapter.»

What Antonio says is true, the book lends itself to stopping for a moment and reflecting after reading each of its chapters. The book makes you question the type of professional you are, the type of work you do, where you want to go and a host of other questions that we should all ask ourselves throughout our professional careers.

The book is narrated in an entertaining way and can be read both in paperback and through the website created by its author.

As far as I'm concerned, it's been really inspiring. So inspiring, that I'm going to create a new category on this blog: based on one of the author's ideas, I'm going to create an area called “YouTube University”. Alvaro González-Alorda indicates in his book that sooner rather than later, Google or some entrepreneur will end up launching the “YouTube Business School”, an online business school that will compile the best knowledge and videos of the best classes given by the most brilliant professors from around the world, ordering them following the program of an MBA. I don’t dare to go that far… for the moment I am content with creating a new section in which I will upload all the videos that I find on YouTube and that are worthy of a university subject on Digital Marketing, which is my specialty, although so that it does not seem that I sometimes contradict myself, I reserve the right to include others, if I consider it necessary.

But back to the book: it is 100% recommended for anyone who is going to be active, professionally speaking, for the next 30 years.

  1. It's very true what you say Montserrat, I found the book by chance during my visits to bookstores, but it's true, it has to be a bedside book and you can already imagine how my book is completely scribbled with so many notes and coincidences with Álvaro Gonzales, and the chapter that impacted me the most was the one that talks about which professional sector we are going to be located in within the high-end or the low-end and it is in those spaces where demand grows, I had not thought about it before, but what Álvaro says is very current.
Our approach has to be decided between these two sectors, THERE IS NO MORE.
